39 Chinese nationals have been arrested.

The Aluthgama police say that they have arrested a group of Chinese nationals who had been staying for several months on a rental basis in a tourist resort in the Kaluamodara area of Aluthgama.

According to the police, the arrest was made according to a complaint made by the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka that this group has committed financial frauds of crores using the internet. The police say that these Chinese nationals worked together as a group to commit this financial fraud from the accounts of foreign philanthropists.

The 39 Chinese nationals who were arrested are in the custody of the Alutgama police.
