24,000 metric tons of sugar have piled up in government sugar factories.

23,696 metric tons of sugar and 23,50,000 liters of ethanol are unsold in the two government sugar companies, Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti said in Parliament today (06).

According to the marketing plan prepared to sell the sugar harvest held by government companies, a kilo of sugar will be sold at a price of Rs. 200 + VAT and a liter of ethanol will be sold at Rs. 800.

The Minister also announced that the import of ethanol will be banned. The Minister, who said that all liquor manufacturing establishments have been informed to purchase one liter of liquor at a price of Rs. 800, pointed out that 03 bottles of liquor can be produced from each liter of liquor and that the price of liquor has not increased even when the leva was at 1500.
