2300 million rupees from India for development in the East

The Cabinet has approved the proposal submitted by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of India and the Government of Sri Lanka to strengthen socio-economic development and bilateral cooperation.

As per the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding, a series of development projects have been planned to be implemented in the Eastern Province under the grant assistance of 2,371.83 million Sri Lankan rupees provided by the Government of India.

Under this, 33 projects are to be implemented with special focus on the sectors of education, health, agriculture, fisheries, tourism and community empowerment.
