15 foreign underworld figures arrested

15 Sri Lankan underworld figures with red notices have been arrested in Russia, Oman, Dubai and India, Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala said in Parliament today (11).

Accordingly, he added that steps will be taken to bring those underworld figures back to Sri Lanka as soon as legal proceedings in their respective countries are completed. Speaking further, Minister Ananda Wijepala said the following.

“From 2025.01.01 to date, 11 organized criminals who were hiding abroad have been arrested and brought to this country.

From January of this year to 2025.09.10, 105 organized crimes have been reported. A total of 322 suspects, including 33 shooters, 24 bikers and 265 suspects with abetment, have been arrested in connection with these incidents.

A total of 1698 weapons, including 58 T56 firearms, 61 pistols, 40 revolvers, 169 12-bore weapons, 33 flintlocks, 6 repeaters, 1331 medic guns and other weapons, have been seized since January.

In order to cover up organized criminals from the law, the United Arab Emirates, Italy, France, Switzerland, Information is being revealed that they are hiding in countries such as Dubai, Indonesia, Canada, Russia, Oman and India.

15 people who have been issued red notices and identified as major criminals and drug traffickers hiding abroad have been arrested by Russia, Oman, Dubai and India.”
