President Ranil Wickremesinghe has appointed Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Deshbandu Tennakoon as Acting Inspector General of Police for the next three months.
According to the report, the disagreement between the President and State Security Minister Tiran Alas regarding the appointment of Deshabandhu Tennakon has ended. According to political sources, Senior Advisor to the President Sagala Ratnayake has also expressed his opinion against the appointment of Deshabandhu Tennakoon as the Inspector General of Police.
Deshabandhu Tennakon was accused of not preventing the attack on the Galle face struggle. However, after Senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardene for the post of IGP, Senior DIG Deshbandu Tennakoon is the most qualified person according to police department sources.
