It is reported that an inmate of Matara Prison has died after being hospitalized with meningitis symptoms. The 53-year-old resident of Walasmulla died while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the prison media spokesperson said.
This is the second death from meningitis in Matara Jail.
Recently, with 17 inmates of the Matara prison falling ill, the officials of the prison department have taken steps to implement strict health measures.
