A commission takes oath at the Golden Arms Pavilion of the Sri Dalada Palace

The swearing-in of the members of the Commission established by the All Ceylon Buddhist Federation to look into the state of lawlessness in the country took place this morning (03) at the Golden Arms Pavilion of the Sri Dalada Palace, Kandy.

In order to investigate 15 matters that emerged in the past year 2022, including making baseless accusations against monks and Buddhist shrines through non-governmental organizations at home and abroad, providing money for anti-Buddhist movements challenging the sovereignty of the people, ordaining young monks studying for higher education.

Former District Judge Pearl Karalliyadda has been appointed as the Chairman of this Independent Commission and Dr. Dulip Palihavadanaya has been appointed as the Secretary. This independent commission consists of 21 people including Emeritus Professor Nimal De Silva, Professor Malani Adagama, Lieutenant General Jagath Dias, former Director General of the Government Information Department Mohan Samaranayake.

The swearing-in of the new members of the commission took place as per the advice of Reverend Niyangoda Wijitha Siri Thero, Anunayake of the Malwatu faction of the Siam Maha Nikaya and Reverend Anamaduwe Dhammadassi Thero, the Anunayake of the Asgiri faction.

Chandra Nimal Vakistha, president of the All Ceylon Buddhist Maha Samela, said that public testimony will be sought for a period of 06 months from now and that the public will have the ability to provide evidence and information by visiting or emailing.
