A warning for the fishing community.

The Department of Meteorology has issued a ‘red’ warning for multi-day fishing vessels operating in the deep-sea areas of the Bay of Bengal.

A new low-pressure area has formed in the Bay of Bengal, in the vicinity of the northern Andaman Islands, with a high probability that it will develop into a depression within the next few hours. Subsequently, this system is likely to move in a north-westerly direction and intensify further, developing into a deep depression.

The Department of Meteorology indicates a very high probability that the system will evolve into a cyclonic storm by the morning of October 26, in the vicinity of the west-central Bay of Bengal.

Consequently, the Department of Meteorology has advised against engaging in any fishing or naval activities in the sea areas between latitudes 10°N and 20°N and longitudes 80°E and 95°E until further notice.

Furthermore, those currently present in these sea areas are advised to move to safe locations immediately.

The Department of Meteorology further urges the fishing and naval communities to remain highly vigilant and to stay informed regarding any subsequent announcements.
