The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) states that the government should take steps to introduce a fair and equitable tax policy for professionals, including doctors. The association further notes that it has already submitted a proposal for such a tax system to the President and hopes the government will consider it in the future.
The GMOA points out that the government generated over Rs. 5,400 billion in tax revenue last year, marking the highest tax revenue recorded in the country’s history.
They also highlight that, despite certain amendments and relief measures introduced to the Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax system, revenue from this tax in 2025 has exceeded expectations by more than 30 percent. The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) points out that professionals, including doctors, are facing severe economic pressure as they are required to pay nearly 36% of their salaries as direct taxes under the current tax system, in addition to substantial amounts in indirect taxes.
