A clash occurred within the prison premises between two inmates detained at Welisara Prison Nadun Chinthaka Wickramaratne (alias ‘Harak Kata’) and Mandinu Padmasiri (alias ‘Kehelbaddara Padme’), both of whom are classified as criminals.
The incident took place on the night of the 22nd, and the Department of Prisons has now initiated a special investigation into the matter. The individual known as ‘Kehelbaddara Padme,’ who sustained injuries during the clash, was immediately referred for medical treatment; reports confirm as stated by the Department of Prisons that he is currently receiving care at the Welisara Prison Hospital.
Prison authorities have taken steps to appoint an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the root causes of the clash and the circumstances surrounding it.
