The Department of Meteorology states that the low-pressure area previously located in the Bay of Bengal, northeast of the island, has intensified into a depression and is expected to further intensify into a deep depression within the next 24 hours. Although this system does not directly impact Sri Lanka, the Department states that the rainy conditions in the island’s southwestern region may persist due to the airflow being drawn towards the system.
