The Department of Meteorology issued a weather warning this afternoon regarding tomorrow’s weather conditions.
According to the warning, intermittent rain or thundershowers are expected tomorrow (21) in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts. The notice states that heavy rains exceeding 100mm may occur in some areas, while several spells of rain are likely in the North Central Province and the Mannar District.
A low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal, to the northeast of the island, in the vicinity of the Andaman region. Although Sri Lanka is not directly affected by this system, rainy conditions are expected to persist in the southwestern part of the island due to the flow of winds towards it.
Meanwhile, scattered showers or thundershowers are likely to occur in the Uva Province and the Batticaloa and Ampara districts after 2:00 PM.
Moderately strong winds of approximately 30–40 km/h may occur intermittently over the western slopes of the central hills, the North-Central and North-Western provinces, and the Trincomalee, Hambantota, and Matale districts. The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize risks associated with lightning and temporary strong winds during thundershowers.
