The government has presented a bill aimed at regulating dog vaccination, dog population control, and the breeding of dogs for commercial purposes. Introduced as the “Rabies Eradication and Dog Registration Bill,” the proposed legislation includes provisions for dog registration as well as for the establishment of national and regional committees dedicated to eradicating rabies.
Under this Bill, every local government authority is required to maintain a dog registration register, and fines have been stipulated for unregistered dogs. A fine of Rs. 2,000 in addition to the registration fee has been proposed for any unregistered dog.
