The Supreme Court today ruled that the pardon granted to Bodu Bala Sena Secretary Venerable Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero, who was sentenced to prison on charges of contempt of court, was illegal.
This pardon was granted by former President Maithripala Sirisena and the Supreme Court’s ruling today confirms that it was granted contrary to the law. In addition, the court ruled some time ago that the presidential pardon granted by former President Maithripala Sirisena to Samantha Jayamaha, who was guilty of the Royal Park murder, was also illegal.
