Former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said that he is not afraid of the persecution of some in the current government, and that he will not bow his head to the government even if he is imprisoned.
When examining the recent history of Sri Lanka, he emphasized that the rulers who tried to stay in power for a long time had to face very bad and terrible experiences, and that no party will be allowed to destroy the country’s democracy and multi-party system.
He said that the current government has solved the sewage problem and the flood problem in Colombo, although some people say that these problems were solved by the previous governments. Moreover, it was also the previous governments that provided electricity around the clock. He said that no one can challenge these facts, which are clearly stated in history.
Commenting on the use of renewable energy sources, the former minister said that the government has allowed two of its close friends to control not only solar power and wind power in the country, but also the generation of small hydropower. Former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka pointed out that we all need to understand that the main reason for this government coming to power is the failures of the previous governments.
He made these comments while addressing the 4th annual conference of the United Republican Front held at the Colombo Foundation Institute yesterday (05). Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the convener of the People’s United Opposition, Professor G. L. Peiris, and many political representatives were present at the event.
