The government is working to further ease the existing vehicle import restrictions, said Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath. He said this while participating as the chief guest at the Motor Rally 2026 vehicle exhibition parade organized by the Sri Lanka Vehicle Importers Association.
The Minister said that about two years ago, there was a ban on the import of vehicles into Sri Lanka, but that the ban has now been lifted, and that the government recognizes the right of citizens to travel easily and fulfill their daily needs in their own vehicles.
Accordingly, the government was able to resume vehicle import in a very short time, and today there is the opportunity to import any type of vehicle without restrictions, he pointed out.
He also emphasized that due to the conflict situation in the Middle East, certain restrictions have been temporarily imposed, but those restrictions are short-term and will be lifted in the future.
