China appoints new ambassador to Sri Lanka .

Wei Huaxiang, who has been appointed as the new Chinese ambassador to Sri Lanka, arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday (11) to assume his duties. He is scheduled to officially assume his duties today.

In a statement after arriving in the island, the new Chinese ambassador stated that his aim is to further strengthen the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Expressing his admiration for Sri Lanka’s rich history, natural beauty and the hospitality of its people, he also recalled the centuries-old maritime and cultural ties between China and Sri Lanka.

In his statement, he highlighted the historical ties, including the Rubber Rice Agreement, as well as how the relations between the two countries have further strengthened since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
