India expresses concern over the continued postponement of Provincial Council elections in Sri Lanka .

Accordingly, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has requested the Sri Lankan government to hold the Provincial Council elections in Sri Lanka, which have been postponed several times, at the earliest and to fully implement the relevant provisions of the Constitution to fulfill the aspirations of the Tamil people, a statement issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said.

Indian Foreign Secretary Sri Vikram Misri arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday (05) and held talks with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The statement said that this request was made at that time.

Elections to 9 Provincial Councils due in 2017 and 2019 have not been held so far.
