A progress review meeting on the task of developing a comprehensive national mechanism to reduce deaths due to drowning while ensuring public safety throughout the island was held at the Parliament Complex on the 24th.
The focus was on strengthening inter-agency cooperation to establish a national framework with the aim of reducing deaths due to drowning throughout the island.
Speaking at the opening of the session, the Deputy Minister of Defense pointed out that the increase in the number of accidents occurring in water is not only a social problem, but also a significant issue affecting public safety as well as national security.
Stating that the lack of a formal and coordinated national safety mechanism poses a serious risk to the country, he stressed the importance of immediately building an effective, sustainable and multi-sectoral approach to prevent drowning.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education, speaking, proposed the inclusion of water safety education in the national school curriculum to create awareness and preparedness among students from an early age.
He noted that by incorporating water safety knowledge into the education system, a culture of responsible behavior and a preventive attitude in the use of rivers, streams and coastal areas will be established in future generations.
