Sri Lanka Customs Media Spokesperson Chandana Punchihewa says that importers have not yet taken steps to release about 1025 vehicles imported into the country from the Hambantota port. He emphasized that 625 of these 1025 vehicles have been in the port for more than six months and that there are no customs violations in these vehicles.
Accordingly, he said that in the future, the vehicles that have not been released without any customs violations will be auctioned or tendered and sold in accordance with Section 109 of the Customs Ordinance.
Any goods imported into the country must be released within a month after paying all applicable taxes. If not, the Customs Act provides for the sale of them under the relevant Act and the government to recover the required amount of taxes from that money.
