It is reported that inmates transferred to other prisons after the riot that broke out in the Negombo prison are being attacked in those prisons.
The Committee for the Protection of Prisoners’ Rights, which issued a statement in this regard,
says that inmates transferred to the Angunakolapelessa prison have been severely attacked, and some of their legs have been broken as a result of the attack.
The statement states that there is also a plan to attack inmates transferred to the Welikada prison, and the authorities are requested to intervene immediately to prevent such attacks.
1,033 inmates held in the Negombo prison have been transferred to other prisons and Katuwellegama Suresh, who is said to have led the clash, has also been transferred to the Boossa prison.
Meanwhile, senior officers in all prisons islandwide have been summoned for a special meeting at 7.30 am today (08).
