The investigating officers of the Consumer Affairs Authority filed a case before the Colombo No. 5 Magistrate’s Court today against the “Zhongsing Supermarket (Pvt) Ltd” located at R.A. De Mal Mawatha, Colombo 03, which was operating in violation of the rules and regulations of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act.
During a special raid conducted by the officers of the Consumer Affairs Authority, the following offences were identified in this supermarket: not displaying the prices of the goods, not keeping the supplier’s bills or receipts, and placing the goods for sale without mentioning the maximum retail price on the packaging of the goods, the name and address of the manufacturer/importer, and mandatory label information, and the relevant charges were filed before the court.
After pleading guilty to the relevant charges, the court imposed a fine of Rs. 300,000 on the said supermarket. The stock of goods presented to the court was also ordered to be destroyed.
