Rupee depreciates by 8% against the dollar .

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has confirmed that the Sri Lankan rupee has depreciated by about 8% against the US dollar during the first 6 months of 2026.

According to Central Bank records, the buying price of a US dollar at the end of trading on Friday (26) was recorded at Rs. 332.22 and the selling price was recorded at Rs. 341.87 .

However, Central Bank of Sri Lanka Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe stated last month that the current rupee depreciation is different from the severe collapse that occurred in 2022.

He said that the current rupee depreciation is not due to domestic events but global conditions.
