The Department of Meteorology has issued a statement stating that showers or thundershowers may occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts today (12).
The statement also states that some places in those areas may experience fairly heavy showers exceeding 75 mm.
Several spells of showers may occur in the Hambantota and Anuradhapura districts, and showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Uva province and Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 1.00 pm.
Meanwhile, strong winds of about 40-50 kilometers per hour are also possible in the western slopes of the Central Highlands, the Northern and North-Central provinces, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
