A SriLankan Airlines flight bound for Melbourne is struck by lightning.

SriLankan Airlines says that a flight departing from the Katunayake International Airport to Melbourne, Australia last night was forced to make an emergency landing due to a suspected lightning strike.

The aircraft, bearing the registration number UL 606, was struck by lightning and was diverted to the Katunayake Airport as a precautionary measure.

The passengers on board were subsequently transferred to another flight to Melbourne, Australia, resulting in a delay of over 5 hours.

A SriLankan Airlines spokesperson said that no passengers were injured in the incident.
