The Department of Meteorology informs the fishing and maritime community to refrain from sailing in the sea areas from Kankesanthurai to Kalpitiya until further notice.
A statement issued by the department in this regard states that the wind speed in the sea areas off the coast from Kankesanthurai to Kalpitiya via Mannar may increase to 60-70 kilometers per hour at times, and those sea areas may become very rough. Therefore, the Department of Meteorology informs the fishing and maritime community not to sail in that area until further notice.
The Department of Meteorology warns that the wind speed may increase to 50-60 kilometers per hour at times in the sea areas off the coast from Trincomalee to Kankesanthurai via Mullaitivu and from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota and that these sea areas may be rough at times.
The Department of Meteorology has also stated in a statement that there is a possibility of an increase in the sea height of about 2.0-2.5 meters in the sea areas off the coast from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
