A person with many allegations appointed to the education reform committee

The CTU has called for an immediate investigation into the appointment of Dumina Lellopitiya, the Acting Director of the Mipe Educational Leadership and Development Centre, to a sub-committee under the National Steering Committee for Education Reforms.

In a statement to the Secretary to the Ministry of Education, the CTU expressed its concern over the appointment of the official to a key education reform institution in the context of allegations of corruption and financial irregularities related to her previous administrative roles that have not yet been resolved.

Citing a National Audit Office report released on May 31, 2024, the CTU pointed out that the report revealed several irregularities involving the official. The report also states that the Audit Office has instructed the Director General of the National Institute of Education to report on the actions taken in relation to the allegations, the union said.

The Lanka Teachers Union said that the inclusion of an officer facing unresolved disciplinary issues in a national education reform mechanism raises serious issues of governance and accountability.
