The case filed by the Bribery Commission against former Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody regarding a corruption case that occurred at the Lanka Fertilizer Company in 2016 was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Rashantha Godawela today.
The High Court Judge, who concluded the pre-trial conference, ordered that the trial would commence on June 17th and ordered that two witnesses of the prosecution be summoned to appear before the court on that day.
Former Minister Kumara Jayakody worked as the Manager of the Procurement and Import Division of the Lanka Fertilizer Company in 2016 and during that time, the case was filed regarding the fact that he acted in a manner that benefited a private company in a procurement process carried out to lay carpets on the premises of the Lanka Fertilizer Company’s Hunupitiya warehouse complex.
The Bribery Commission has filed these charges against the former minister, alleging that he committed the offense of “corruption” by causing a loss of Rs. 8,859,708 to the government in that act.
