A protest led by New People’s Front leader Sugeeshwara Bandara demanding that the Finance Secretary resign from his post and take responsibility for the US$2.5 million allegedly paid to a third party and lost to the country has been attacked.
While the protesters were protesting in front of the secretary’s house, another group that arrived there pelted them with cow dung and stones, creating a tense situation between the two groups.
Police officers have reportedly intervened and taken steps to control the situation.
Security has been tightened in the area and further investigations are underway into the incident.
