Our correspondents say that the fire that broke out at the waste management site in the Karadiyana area of Piliyandala this evening has not yet been fully controlled, and thick smoke is still spreading throughout the area due to the fire.
The Moratuwa Fire Department and the Sri Lanka Air Force Fire Department have already reached the site, and it is reported that the Piliyandala Police and residents are working together to douse the fire.
The police have warned that the smoke emitted from this site may contain toxic substances. Accordingly, the police are requesting the public to avoid using the by-passes near the garbage dump and to reach their destinations through alternative routes.
Piliyandala Police, issuing a health advisory to residents living near the landfill, are asking them to wear face masks to prevent respiratory problems from inhaling toxic fumes.
