The Northern Railway Line, which was suspended due to road blockages, resumed operations yesterday. Accordingly, the first train to operate on the Northern Railway Line after the restoration of the damaged sections, the intercity train to Kankesanthurai, commenced its journey from Mount Lavinia Railway Station yesterday morning.

The damaged sections of the Northern Railway Line were repaired under a grant of US$ 5 million as part of the US$ 450 million Indian Line of Credit assistance package.
