New doctors to be given post-internship appointments amid strike

The Ministry of Health and Mass Media has announced the new appointments for the 436 new doctors who applied for post-internship medical appointments today (08).

The announcement states that these doctors are required to report to the government hospitals or health institutions across the island to which they have been assigned between tomorrow (9) and the 11th.

The Ministry of Health and Mass Media has stated in its announcement that these new doctors have been assigned to meet the medical needs across the island in a transparent and scientific manner based on the manner in which they have applied for their appointments and their merit list.

However, the Government Medical Officers’ Association has called for a two-day strike starting tomorrow at 8 a.m., stating that the granting of these appointments is a breach of the agreement reached with their union.
