Doctors’ strike ends as Health Minister agrees to talks

The Government Medical Officers’ Association says it has decided to temporarily suspend its strike based on the opportunity to discuss its issues with the Minister next Thursday.

Secretary of the association, Dr. Prabath Sugathadasa, said that since the Minister is going abroad today, the strike will be temporarily suspended on the promise that time will be given for discussions after he returns to the island.

The Government Medical Officers’ Association launched this strike based on several demands, including an end to the transfers of doctors due to political interference.
