Police statement on domestic workers.

In view of the complaints of domestic thefts reported from various parts of the island, the police have issued an advisory to homeowners to be more vigilant when recruiting domestic workers.

According to the Police Media Division, recent complaints have revealed that some domestic workers are stealing gold ornaments, money, foreign currency and other valuables from the homes they work in.

Accordingly, the police have informed that when recruiting domestic workers, their background should be checked, a clear photocopy of the National Identity Card should be obtained, the original pages should be checked and it should be confirmed that it is a true copy.

The police have advised that those who employ domestic workers should obtain a police report from the police station in their permanent and temporary residence area, and that they should obtain the telephone numbers of their family members and emergency contacts in advance.

The police have advised that care should be taken to keep jewelry, money and valuable documents in a safe place at home, and that domestic workers should not be left alone at home whenever possible.

It is a duty to provide copies of the above documents to the OIC of the police station in the police division where the homeowner resides and inform them about it, and it is important for the homeowners to also keep a detailed record of those documents, the police say.
