The United States Embassy in Sri Lanka has issued a special notice for American citizens staying in Sri Lanka.
The statement says that although global air travel is still facing serious disruptions due to the closure of air routes in the Middle East region, operations at Katunayake Airport are continuing as usual.
However, since some commercial flights that do not pass through the Middle East are still operating, the embassy has advised travelers to contact their airlines directly regarding flight cancellations or delays.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan government has taken steps to provide a free 14-day visa extension to help tourists arrange alternative travel plans.
American citizens who need emergency assistance can contact the embassy’s Citizen Services section at (+94 11 202 8500). These services are available from 1.00 p.m. to 2.00 p.m., Monday to Thursday on working days.
For other information not related to flights, travelers can also call the Sri Lanka Tourist Police hotline 1912, according to the notice.
