A woman who recorded a video of a witness giving evidence in a case at the Colombo Additional Magistrate’s Court was fined Rs. 1,000 by Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama.
Yesterday, during a court case, the woman recorded a video on her mobile phone while her father was giving evidence. A police officer attached to the court saw the incident and arrested her with the mobile phone. She was then handed over to the court police post, and Keselwatta Police filed charges against her.
Police told the court that the woman recorded the video while sitting in the open court of Additional Magistrate Court No. 2. She admitted the offence in court.
The Magistrate fined her Rs. 1,000 and also ordered her to delete the video from her mobile phone.
