The President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Rajeev Amarasuriya, says that they have decided to abstain from court proceedings tomorrow (16). He says that this decision was taken at the general meeting held today (15).
About 3500 lawyers participated in the general meeting held today, and a large number of them joined the meeting via Zoom technology.
The shooting death of a lawyer and his wife in the Akuregoda area was discussed at today’s meeting, and many special decisions were taken.
Accordingly, it has been decided to propose a motion to force the government to end the culture of murder that currently exists in our country and to ensure public safety.
He also stated that he requests the police and public safety agencies to immediately arrest all those responsible for this crime and take legal action.
The Chairman further stated that the Police and relevant parties have expressed their strong displeasure over the dissemination of unverified information or portraying it as true.
