The Irrigation Department has announced that the spill gates of the Kaudulla Reservoir are expected to be opened at around 5.00 pm today (16). The department states that it is expected to release 500 cubic feet per second into the Kaudulu Oya.
Although this will not cause a flood situation, the Irrigation Department requests people using low-lying areas to be vigilant.
