The audit continues to inquire into the corruption and fraud that occurred in the Ministry of Health during the tenure of former Health Ministers Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Channa Jayasumana and Keheliya Rambukwella, but the current health authorities are not taking action to provide relevant information, says Expert Dr. Chamal Sanjeewa, Vice Chairman of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya Anti-Corruption Force.
This is confirmed when examining the latest audit reports, and therefore he has requested the Criminal Investigation Department to conduct an immediate investigation into the matter.
The Auditor General has continuously inquired into the loss of over 70 million dollars to the government due to the purchase of about 700,000 Covid vaccines beyond the limit. However, he also says that the latest audit report has stated that the current health officials are concealing the relevant facts.
He also points out that the failure of the current Health Secretary Anil Jasinghe and the Director Generals of Health, including Dr. Asela Gunawardena, who held the positions of the Ministry of Health during this period, to provide information in this way could have covered up many of the corruption that occurred in the past.
He has also requested an investigation into the fact that the audit indicates that nearly 900 million rupees donated by the Sri Lanka Cricket and the Foreign Employment Bureau to purchase medicines has been misused.
