The Anti-Corruption Act contains all the provisions necessary to maintain the Bribery or Corruption Prevention Commission as a fully independent institution, says the Director General of the Commission, Ranga Dissanayake.
However, he further says that the inability to understand certain concepts of the Act is a big problem, and unfortunately, the Members of Parliament who drafted the Act also cannot understand it.
”When I see what some people say, I wonder if this was made by Parliament. Although it is said that ignorance of the law is not an excuse, the wrong things are being communicated to the society within the discourse that even those who drafted these laws do not know them. Therefore, this intellectual discourse should be started at the very top,” the Commissioner said.
