IMF representatives meet President to discuss next loan tranche

A discussion between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and representatives of the International Monetary Fund was held at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (07).

The discussion was held for the mid-term phase of the fifth review, which is being held before the release of the sixth tranche of the IMF in the debt restructuring process.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake told the representatives of the International Monetary Fund that it is the main objective of the government to rescue the country from economic bankruptcy and take it towards development, and that the government has a strategic plan for that.

The President also stated that he greatly appreciates the support provided by the International Monetary Fund in the process of making that program a success.

The President pointed out that the government has recognized the need to surpass the targets set by the International Monetary Fund in order to develop this country into a country capable of achieving economic revival, and that the government has a formal program for that.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake pointed out that in order to achieve the goal of achieving economic revival, local and foreign investors should be further invited, and an investment-friendly environment should be created in the country for that purpose.

The representatives of the International Monetary Fund appreciated the steps taken by the government to revive the country’s collapsed economy, and the two sides further discussed the measures to be taken in the future.
