Government ready to return Mahinda’s bulletproof car

Although the former Presidents’ Entitlement Act has been repealed, the provisions provided for their security will not be repealed, said Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala.

The vehicles used by some former presidents for their security have also been handed over by now, and the Minister pointed out that the repealing of the Entitlement Act does not apply to them.

Since it is the responsibility of the government to ensure the security of former presidents, the Minister also said that if any request is made regarding vehicles and other things related to security, he is ready to act on it.

When the Act to abolish the privileges of retired presidents was challenged before the Supreme Court, the Attorney General told the Supreme Court that the Act does not abolish the security and pensions of retired presidents.

The Minister stated this in Parliament today (07).
