Continuous electricity supply across the country is in crisis

Electricity Board sources say that the trade union action to work to the letter initiated by the Electricity Board Trade Union may lead to a serious disruption in the electricity supply.

The current short-time work union action is scheduled to end on Thursday, September 18. After that, the electricity trade unions have decided not to perform overtime and additional duties after the end of the day shift.

Accordingly, it is reported that the electricity board employees have decided to leave maintenance and office work, including power outages, after 4.30 pm. All trade unions except the Lanka Electricity Workers’ Union affiliated to the JVP have joined a discussion on this.

The electricity workers have also sent a letter to Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody, requesting that solutions be provided before September 15 for the major problems that arose when the electricity board was brought under the control of four companies.
