Former Mayor of Moratuwa Saman Lal Fernando was arrested by the Bribery Commission this afternoon.
He has been arrested on charges of causing losses to the government by awarding road development projects of the Moratuwa Municipal Council to his friends.
He has been arrested on several charges including awarding 112 contracts related to the Maga Neguma Urban Internal Roads and Rural Road Development Program in 2013, awarding contracts to 12 community-based societies at his own discretion, and making payments to parties other than the contracted party in violation of financial regulations, the Commission for the Investigation of Corruption stated.
He is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
