Italian diplomat to visit Sri Lanka after 10 years

Italy’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Maria Tripodi is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow on an official visit. This is the first visit by a top Italian diplomat to Sri Lanka in nearly 10 years, sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

During her visit to Sri Lanka, Italian Deputy Minister Tripodi is scheduled to co-chair the inaugural session of the Sri Lanka-Italy Political Consultations with Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Overseas Employment Arun Hemachandra.

A Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of a political consultation mechanism that will provide a structural framework for dialogue between the two countries is scheduled to be signed during this visit and she is scheduled to pay an official visit to Sri Lanka from 3 to 5 September.
