Three political strongman remanded on the same day

Former MPs Rajitha Senaratne, Athuraliye Rathana Thero and Nimal Lanza were remanded in three courts today.

Accordingly, former Minister Rajitha Senaratne, who appeared before the Colombo High Court today, was remanded and then produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court. There he was remanded again.

He was remanded in connection with an investigation into the allegation that the government suffered a loss of 2.62 billion rupees by leasing a Korean company for sand mining activities at the Kirinda Fisheries Harbour.

Former MP Nimal Lanza was arrested after surrendering to the Kochchikade Police. He was remanded after being produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court today (29).

The Attorney General has filed charges against the former Member of Parliament on charges of unlawful assembly and damage to property during a protest.

Meanwhile, Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero, for whom a warrant had been issued, appeared before the Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court today and the Thero has also been ordered to be remanded until the 12th of next month.

This is in connection with the abduction and detention of the General Secretary of the Ape Jana Bala Party, Venerable Vedinigama Wimalathissa Thero, in order to forcibly obtain the national list MP position that belonged to that party.

In addition, former Deputy Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa was also remanded further today.
