A large-scale ilmenite washing operation that was being conducted illegally on the border of the Wilpattu National Park was raided by the Walana Anti-Corruption Unit yesterday (09). Investigations have now been initiated to determine whether several powerful politicians of the previous government are involved in this illegal activity.
The Walana Anti-Corruption Unit raided an ilmenite washing operation that was being conducted illegally in the Aruwakkaduwa sensitive ecosystem on the border of the Wilpattu National Park. The land was seized by the Walana Anti-Corruption Unit and machinery worth nearly 200 crores was seized by the police.
This raid was carried out under the direct supervision of the Acting Inspector General of Police, Priyantha Weerasuriya.
