Arrested Shashindra Remanded

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali has ordered the remand of former State Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa until the 18th of this month.

This order has been issued based on an incident of receiving compensation for damage to government property belonging to the Mahaweli Authority during the struggle. This incident is considered to be a criminal misappropriation of state property.

Investigations into the incident have been initiated on the allegation that the relevant property belonged to the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority and that the compensation was refused, but he acted contrary to this and used his official power to influence certain government officials.

It is stated that these influences were made on officials attached to the Office for Compensation.
