Mount Lavinia Magistrate A. D. Chathurika De Silva has ordered today (25) to the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau to the recording of statements and filing of extracts from Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe, Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe and Kaduwela Mayor Ranjan Jayalal regarding the alleged fraud of a two-storey building owned by a private institution by preparing a fake deed and leasing it for Rs. 3.6 million.
Documents uncovered during the investigation, such as a copy of the certified deed of the building, the minutes of the general meeting of the institution on September 3, 2017, which authorized Wasanna Samarasinghe to be the president of the trade union of the institution, certified copies of lease deeds Nos. 166, 206, 207, as well as copies of the complete case records related to the proceedings held in the Kaduwela District Court, the Mount Lavinia District Court and the Civil Appeal Court regarding the custody of the property in question, were submitted to the court today by officers of the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau through a further report.
35 additional documents certified by President’s Counsel Maithri Gunaratne, who appeared for the aggrieved party, were also submitted to the court today.
Accordingly, the case is scheduled to be taken up again on August 22.
