Saudi Crown Prince Alwaleed bin Khalid bin Talal died yesterday, the Global Council of Imams said in a statement.
The prince, who had been in a coma for two decades after a serious car accident in London in 2005, has died without regaining consciousness. He was 36 years old at the time of his death, and 15 years old when he was in the accident.
Prince Alwaleed was in the accident while studying at a military academy in the United Kingdom. The accident caused serious brain injuries and internal bleeding, and he fell into a complete coma.
After initial treatment, he was taken to the King Abdulaziz Hospital Complex in Riyadh, where he remained on life support for nearly 20 years under constant medical care. Prince Alwaleed was known as the ‘Sleeping Prince’.
